Shane Mahan

Shane Mahan was born and raised in Greenville, Michigan. From a young age, he became fascinated with the creatures and monsters of the classic Universal horror films and Toho Godzilla movies. While attending Greenville High School, Shane began experimenting in earnest with techniques that he picked up from library books on stage makeup. After graduating in 1981, Shane moved to Hollywood to pursue his monster-making dreams.

In Los Angeles, Shane enrolled at E.I. School of Professional Makeup to further his artistic skills and was soon thereafter hired by Stan Winston to work on The Terminator. Shane would spend the next 25 years of his career at Stan Winston Studio, becoming a lead art department supervisor and contributing to countless iconic projects, including the Terminator franchise, Predator 1 & 2, Aliens, the Jurassic Park franchise, and the first Iron Man film, for which Shane was honored with an Academy Award nomination.

After Stan’s untimely passing in 2008, Shane joined fellow Stan Winston Studio supervisors John Rosengrant, Alan Scott, and Lindsay Macgowan in founding Legacy Effects. Shane has been proud to help lead the Legacy Effects team in contributing to many blockbuster films and television series, including the Avengers films, The Suicide Squad, The Shape of Water, The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Avatar: The Way of Water and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
